Episode 9: Station des Rousses

Station des Rousses is a set which among other things obviousy expresses how much we love the music of Richard Sen. Sen produces under Padded Cell, Cazbee, and Bronx Dogs and this set pulls together some of his psychedelic disco stuff. Its a pretty mellow collection and we think it's perfect for a humid, spacy, plastic, retro-disco summer in South Florida. The set starts with a Tape to Tape track on Relish, a "no-wave hello NYC" James Chance and the Contortionist's remix by DFA-producer Liv Spencer and Rong Music's DJ Spun, a Black Devil, Disco Club track that is remixed by Sen on Lo Recordings followed by another Sen/Padded Cell remix of Bo'tox that was released on I'm a Cliche France. The next track is a Ray Mang version of Marius's Jet Set followed by the equally romantic Black Van hit Yearning. The next quirky track with the flute is a Clap Rules track from the label Slow Motion Germany that we love. Gazeebo is releasing seem fun stuff this summer, and so we couldn't help but including one ourselves next. Finally, we end the set by drawing from a Lunaflicks Norway release which really is a ravetastic groove: its Skatebard's Plastique De Rave mix of Way Out. Finally we come back to Padded Cell from the album Night Must Fall. Thanks all, enjoy!

Episode 8: Mash the Cranks (vol. 2)

Well here we have an acid techno mix dedicated to Miami's bike scene. The set dials in to some choonz from London's squat parties in the mid-'90s which were sometimes connected with Reclaim the Streets. We are gonna use that as an excuse to crack open some old (and not-so-old) 303-acid bombers. The set includes: X Meets Y from Smitten, Lochi from Routemaster, Noctilucence, a D.A.V.E. the Drummer track from his Hydraulix label, Halidated, Chris Liberator, another Noctilucence, Dynamo City, a Chris Lib/Sterling Moss track, and finally some Zoid from Cluster (Shout to More Punk than Funk!). Yes, we realize these guys deliberately mess everything up by renaming themselves 1/2 a million different ways and all of these songs probably connect to Chris Liberator, Lawrie Immersion, and Henry Cullen directly in some way, but I'm too lazy to sort it. Enjoy it!

A throwback-style session of nu disco/wave and progressive house... pop it on the headphones for your next "reverse skate" at the local rink or along the beach. The first 30 minutes feature some velvety analog nu-disco tracks from Alden Tyrell, Putsch '79 remixing for the Gibson Brothers, An 2, Lucy Montenegro, Gesaffelstein, Polygamy Boys, and another Putsch '79 track before we start getting a bit shifty with a trance-infused journey featuring the Beat Broker, Water Lily, and deep tracks by Duplex and The Mole. We end the set with a cool Jay Shepheard prog workout followed by the Raven Maize track that has Reidell boots and Radar wheels plastered all over it...you know the one!

Here we have a dedication mix. The inspiration for the set was drawn from Sunday afternoons--wading in the pool with friends, having a barbecue in the Florida sunset, and being in that bleached-out state-of-mind following a sleepless night of bouncing around the city until morning. Enjoy these tracks while relaxing under the canopy with friends as the bbq sizzles--the mix includes radio edits, some retro re-releases and nu-disco, deep house, electro, and even a proggy track at the end. Featured are Junior Boys, Peaches, Panthers remixed by Holy Ghost!, Woolfy vs. Projections, two tracks by Jackpot (the second a remix by Runaway), a Snix remix by Peaches and Shapemod, Cut Copy remixed by Boys Noize, Danger, and Good Guy Mikesh and Filburt.

Here we have a brilliant collection of minimal, melodic tech re-discovered on the spindle, a truly classic journey melded by one of our favorite Blackbox repeat-offenders who is now off to the Ukraine traveling, drinking the horilka, sipping tea in Kiev, and pretending to work. Though we all need to continue on our own merry ways, its nice when little artifacts like this remain behind, reminding us of times well spent. You better enjoy this one! Tracklisting available upon request...will try to get it from the source shortly.
